By no stretch of the imagination do I consider myself a writer.

Despite this fact, I set a goal in 2020 to write an article every week for the duration of the NFL season. Why on earth would I do this?

  1. I love football
  2. I want to become a writer

Everyone says the best way to become a better writer is by…

…writing more.

Not exactly a tricky concept, but building any sort of a habit is never as easy as it sounds.

I like to create “challenges” as a way to push myself, learn something new, or experience a different perspective. Naturally, I decided a writing-based challenge would be a great way to progress towards my goal of becoming a writer.

One article each week of the NFL season seemed like a doable task. It offered the perfect balance of stepping out of my comfort zone, practicing a useful skill, and having fun doing it.

Transitioning from barely writing at all, to producing thousands of words each week was a tough adjustment. I faced a few obstacles along the way, but ultimately this challenge was a lot of fun and a very rewarding experience.

With the NFL season starting up again on Sunday (* excitedly pumps fist*), I figured now would be a good time to step back and reflect on how writing last…
